Almost One! {Novi, MI}

This photo session with the D family is one that’s been a year in the making. When my coworker was pregnant, we had talked about doing maternity photos, but she had one of those pregnancies where she was sick for the majority of it so photos weren’t the top priority. Then when her baby girl was born, she was off for maternity leave and had family from India coming in and out of the country visiting, so it was hard to coordinate new born or even 3 month photos.

Then when her daughter was around 6 months old, she traveled to India to be with family there and we never really got around to photos. So when I found out her daughter was turning one soon, I asked if she still wanted photos and we jumped at the chance since we both miraculously had free weekends!

It was like it was meant to be ;)

A Day with the P Family {Novi, MI}

One of the most enjoyable parts of doing what I do is being able to meet new people and new family’s. Another perk is being able to work with returning clients, especially ones where I have been able to see the children grow! This family is one I have known for years and I have taken pictures of their children in the past few years. It’s always a treat to re-visit with families and take more photos for them!

The parents in this family attended college with my sister and brother-in-law and were all in the same social circles. They are all still close friends to me,  my sister and brother-in-law. It’s sometimes hard to believe that I have known them since I was 15 years old! Many of my sister’s friends are like older siblings to me, and have always treated me like family. And so being able to watch them grow up, get married, and see their lives evolve is one of the coolest things to witness! I hope I can continue to help capture some of these sweet moments for them in the future.

Thanks to the P family for not only letting me take these adorable family photos for you, but for continuing to be an important part of my life!

It’s a Girl! {Ann Arbor, MI}

Ann Arbor in the spring time is one of the most beautiful times of year. That is, when it doesn’t snow. Anyone who lives in Michigan knows our state motto: “Hate the weather? Wait 5 minutes!” But when the sun decides to shine and the temperatures are higher than 40 degrees, everyone takes to the outdoors and enjoys what Ann Arbor can offer!

I had the pleasure of taking photos for my friend Amber and her beautiful family. I’ve taken so many photos of Amber since I’ve known her, but this time I was a little nervous.

Her sister- and brother-in-law are a wife-and-husband photography team and own a business in Salem, OR called Vibrant Photography. I don’t know about anyone else out there, but I was nervous to take photos of photographers. I don’t like to let any clients down ever, let alone clients who know the ins and outs of this process!

The New Aparna Photography!

Hi everyone! Welcome to the new and improved Aparna Photography! I am so, so happy to reveal this new look and feel of Aparna Photography.

My amazing and talented, (and former coworker) Tom is the brains and visionary behind this new design. While my brother-in-law helped me start this website and helped me with initial design, he became pretty busy with the new little one in their life. So, I asked Tom if he would help me design and update the site and he happily agreed.

I’ve never worked with a web designer before, but working with Tom was an awesome experience! He’s a UI developer by day so web and user interface design comes naturally to him. He was so patient with me while I figured out what exactly I wanted. It’s hard to figure out what kind of website you want to represent your work. But then it became easy to figure out what I wanted: a simple, clean design that showcases my work and keeps clients informed. I think Tom accomplished it beautifully!

Caitlin – Senior Portraits

I had the absolute pleasure of taking senior photos for my friends niece. It’s hard to believe Miss Caitlin is going to be a senior this year! I remember when my friend brought her to work when it was her 13th birthday and we took her to Chuck E. Cheese in town just for lunch and ended up all being kids again. Now she’s 18 and about to start her senior year of high school.

I was beyond thrilled when Caitlin’s mom asked me to take her senior photos. We decided on doing two sessions: one with all her yearbook photos so we meet the school deadline, as well as a few outdoors. However, we’ve set up another session for spring time when the flowers are back in bloom. Caitlin loves the outdoors and love flowers, so we decided to extend her session into the spring as well, right before her graduation.

Here are a handful of some of my favorites from our first session. It was a really fun afternoon getting some standard yearbook photos, but then also having fun outdoors and even getting a few photos with her brother.

Oliver One Year

A year ago Michigan experienced what we all called Snowmageddon. It was the worst storm we had all year and people were furiously scrambling to clean out grocery stores in case they would be stranded in their homes. A little extreme if you ask me. It was a bad storm, but we live in Michigan! Anyway during that ridiculous snow storm my friends had their son, Oliver Robert, and I took photos of him when he was a newborn. It was my very first newborn shoot and I remember I was incredibly nervous!

Hard to believe that it’s been a year and now Oliver is going to be one! His awesome parents asked me to do his one year pictures, which of course I agreed to do. This type of session was different than most, though. While I had all these props and ideas for poses, Oliver wanted nothing to do with it.

For the first time since starting this little photography venture, I got to do a photo shoot where I just took pictures of the family around their home. There were some posed pictures, but not many since Oliver wasn’t too thrilled with having to sit still ;) It was different, but it was also really fun!

Here’s a peek at some of the photos!
